Home  » Andorra

A small country in the Southwestern Europe is known as Andorra or the Principality of Andorra. This landlocked Andorra country is nestled in the eastern Pyrenees Mountains and is bordered by Spain and France. This was once an isolated country, but now it is a prosperous country. Being the hot spot for tourists, Andorra has grown to become the most famous place for holidays. Probably, this is the reason for its popularity all over the world and its status as a tax haven. Andorra is also well known for its highest life expectancy in the world, at 83.52 years (2007 est).

Some of the top tourist destinations are Casa de la Vall, Santa Coloma Church, Caldea, the Castle of Saint Vicenç d'Enclar and La Cortinada, Ordino. Catalan is the culture of Andorra. Even the official as well as historic language of Andorra is Catalan. Andorra is known worldwide for its culture, people, religion and festivals. The long history of Andorra talks about the rich folklore and gives us abundant folktales to share with family, friends and kids.

The Andorran people celebrate many colorful festivals during the months of July, August and September. The towns and villages become the center of attraction of all the people traveling to Andorra. These places are all decked up to celebrate the festival of Canillo, Encamp, Ordino, Sant Julia de Loria and the national festival of Mare de Deu Meritxel. Some of these festivals are celebrated for three days at a time while some others are for a single day celebration. The origin of Andorran festivals goes to the Catholic Church. Indeed, these festivals were religious feasts for Andorran people. So, lets take a look at these different festivals of Andorra held on different dates:

  • Sant Julia de Loria: A village Festival celebrated on the last Sunday in July for three days.
  • Canillo: It is a religious village Festival held on the 3rd Saturday in July for three days.
  • Mare de Deu Meritxell: It is the National Festival held on 8th September.
  • Encamp: A village Festival held on three days i.e. on the 15th, 16th and 17th of August.
  • La Massana: Yet another Festival held on the 15th, 16th and 17th of August.
  • Andorra la Vella: A village Festival held on the 1st Saturday in August for three days.
  • Escalde-Engordany: Another village Festival held on the 25th, 26th and 27th of July.
  • Ordino: Another religious village Festival celebrated on the 16th and 17th of September.
