Durga Puja is the biggest Bengali festival and it is celebrated all over the world by the people of Bengali culture. It is held in the month of Autumn. People worship Goddess Durga so that they can get a good harvest. People who are busy in the rat race of daily life get rid from all their stress during this festival. It is believed that on the occasion of Durga Puja, the goddess Durga (Uma) comes to her father's home with her four children and stays there for four days.

Durga Puja is considered to be the oldest and the most glorious festival of Bengalis in Bangladesh. Bengalis all over the world also celebrate this festival with lots of joy and fervor. This festival is celebrated for five days.According to Hindu mythology, it is said that Ram Chandra arranged Durga Puja to defeat Ravana, the epitome of evil. From then Durga puja celebrated at this time of the year is known as 'Akal Bodhan'. It signifies the victory of truth or good over evil as epics show, Ram Chandra won the battle after his 'Akal Bodhan' puja. He used hundred and one lotus flowers for this puja.

The festival starts on the day of Shasti and then goes on to Saptami, Astami, and Navami. Dashami is the last day of this festival and then it seems that, Durga returns back to her husband's house which is in Kailash mountain. Dashami is the day of immersion of the goddess.

People enjoy Durga puja with their family and friends. They wear new dresses and eat various foods especially sweets. Everybody shares joy and happiness with each other. Though the duration of the puja is five days the preparation starts a month ago. During durga Puja, various pandals of goddess Durga are set up at different locations. Thousands of people visit these pandals with their friends and family. Nowadays, Durga Puja symbolizes a gathering of different kinds of people. It also increases communal harmony in the nation since almost every man of every religion takes part in this festival.
