Burma also known as Myanmar is located in south East Asia is bordered on the north by China, on the east it is bordered by Laos, Thailand is on its southeast, Bangladesh standing on its west and on the North West it is covered by India. Buddhism is the dominant religion in Burma. Further, each month vary according to the Burmese calendar festivals and celebrations are observed in a ritualistic manner. Tagu:  Tagu is the first month of the Burmese calendar and the New Year celebration is done in this month. The most common event in the New Year Event is the water throwing festival. Water is splashed on each other and is symbolized as offering blessings to each other. The water throwing event is also interpreted as cleaning away once dirt from his body and making him clean for the New Year.

Nayon:   This is the third month according to the Burmese calendar and another important event take place in this month too. The monks and the nuns living in the monasteries have to appear for a written test based on the religious scripture, Tripitaka.

Waso:  This is the fourth month in Burma commemorating the first sermon that was delivered by Lord Buddha sitting under the Bodhi tree. In this particular festival the Bodhi tree is worshiped and water is poured on it by people in Burma. This is considered as one of the most important occasion when the Buddhists get an opportunity to usher their whole hearted devotion to their Lord.

Wagaung:  This is the fifth month of the Burmese, marking the celebration of donating alms and meals to the monks. This particular occasion has a historical narration behind it, dates back to the time when Lord Buddha was in Wazagyo, some of his disciples complained him about the burden they were facing relating the grants of alms and meals. Buddha solved the problem by proposing collectible grants for the whole monk community. Since then this practice is being followed by the Buddhists and on this particular month the Buddhists collect alms and donate it among the monks and the poor.

Nadaw:  This is the ninth moth for the Burmese, the most exciting celebration taking place in this month is of conferring titles and giving away of awards.

Pyatho:  Pyatho, the tenth month according to the Burmese calendar, the month corresponds to the mid of December to January acclaimed internationally. The month isn't very chilled in Burma as the sea neutralizes the cold temperature and makes it a merry time one. The equestrian celebration is very popular event of the month in Burma. Horse racing, sword fighting, bowman ships and other valorous activities are performed.

Thus Burma, Myanmar can be referred as the land of festivals. Such festivals and celebrations mark the cultural facet of the Burmese people and their culture.
