Kason is the second month of the Burmese calendar, the month of May according to the English calendar. The Kason festival, one of the popular Burmese festivals is referred to as the most pious festival of the people leaving in Burma. Kason celebrations in Burma are celebrated on the full moon day in the month of May or Kason, as known in Burma. One of the popular Burmese celebrations, Kason commemorates the enlightenment of Lord Buddha, this day is also known as the Vesak Day or Buddha Day in Burma.

The festival, Kason full moon day replicates few important days of Lord Buddha's life, the first is to commemorate his birth, the second is the day of his incarnation into Lord Buddha from Siddhartha, and the third is when he achieved Enlightenment and finally the day when he achieved Parinirvana. On the Kason full moon day the Burmese with all their devotions worship the sacred Bodhi Tree, under which Lord Buddha achieved enlightenment.

To the Burmese the festival of Kason full moon day holds special significance. This day is marked with devotion to Lord Buddha who spent most of his life in interpreting the mysteries of life and principles while taking them to the masses. The Kason full moon day or the Vesak day is thus an opportunity to shower one’s respect and devotion to Lord Buddha who spent his whole life for the betterment of the humanity.

The most dignified occasion during the course of the Kason celebrations in Burma is the offering of water on the Bodhi Tree. Pilgrims all round the world come to Burma with buckets of water with the sole aim to worship the Bodhi Tree. This water pouring ceremony is the main feature of the Kason celebration. Through the water pouring ceremony the Burmese offer all their devotions to Lord Buddha. The Bodhi Tree thus symbolizes the main medium of showing one's devotion to Lord Buddha. Religious chants mark the Kason celebrations that have the appeal of making one's mind soothing while filing it up with complete devotion.
