China is one of the oldest civilizations on earth. This country comprises of many states and is a conglomerate of various cultures which are more than six millennia old. Full of festivities and life, the Chinese people observe many events throughout the whole year. Some of the major festivals of China are as follows:

Chinese New Year: Celebrated every year during late January and early February, the Chinese New Year is the biggest festival of China. Celebrated for about fifteen days, the festivities include meeting with friends and relatives, inviting Tso Kwan (Kitchen God) back to the earth, worshipping the God of Wealth, observing All Person’s day and the famous lantern festival.

Mid Autumn Festival: This mainly consists of the lantern festival and exchanging “mooncakes” among the near and dear ones. Lanterns of each and every shape imaginable are lighted by the children and are used to light up the dark streets to lead the adults.

Tin Hau Festival: Celebrated every year on the 23rd day of the Third Moon, the Tin hau Festival is observed in China. In commemoration of a girl called Tin Hau (Queen of Heaven), during this festival, sailors and boat people sail to Da Miao (The Great Temple) situated on the Joss House Bay and offer prayers to the goddess for safe and happy journeys throughput the whole year.

Cheng Chau Festival: Cheng Chau Festival is celebrated every year in China on the eighth day of the Fourth Moon. A four day celebration, during Cheng Chau, huge structures covered with bread buns is erected. It is believed that more the number of buns you collect, more good luck are showered upon you.

Ching Ming Festival: Every year on the 5th of April, the Ching Ming Festival is celebrated in China. On this day, the Chinese people offer food and wine to their deceased family members and have a feast before the headstone of the deceased person. It is believed that by eating with their deceased ones would bring good luck to the family.

Tuen Ng Festival:Also known as the Dragon Boat Festival, Tuen Ng Festival is celebrated every year in Hong Kong in a very big way on the Fifth Day of the Fifth Moon. This festival is celebrated in memory of Wut yuan, a famous Chinese poet and patriot.

Apart from the above listed festivals, some other festivals of China are Qingming Festival, Qi Xi Festival and Chongyang Festival.
