The American state of Alaska is well
known for its Christmas celebrations.
Just like all other American states,
here also this festive yet auspicious
occasion is celebrated on the 25th
of December every year, in order to
mark the birth of Jesus Christ, the
messiah of Christians around the world.
Christmas is celebrated here in high
spirits with people from all corners
of the state participating to make
this occasion a memorable and joyous
one.
The main events that accompany this
festive occasion here are caroling,
feasting and exchange of gifts. There
is a common tradition at Alaska that
the Santa Claus must arrive before
the Christmas for some kind of a pre
Christmas eve. So, Christmas songs
and carols are sung at each home throughout
Alaska. The most common songs sung
during this time of the year highlight
the birth of Jesus Christ and his
halo effects. However, there are certain
songs like the Mnogaya Leta which
is specifically meant for seeking
the grace of the almighty so as to
increase one’s life span. People of
Alaska are also known for their beautiful
decoration of houses during the eve
of this festival. Most of the houses
are beautifully lit up to embrace
this festive occasion. Soon after
the Carol is over, hosts are known
to serve maple frosted doughnuts with
cookies and candies to the carolers.
If you are lucky enough, you can also
get to taste the smoked salmon during
this time In some rare cases, you
may also get to taste freshly prepared
fish pies. During the Christmas vacations,
the children march the roads and visit
one house after another by singing
beautiful carols. Some parts of this
state are known for the continuation
of Christmas festivities for a week
or more even after the end of Christams.
