Kullubi is a place in the African nation of ethiopia where a popular religious festival, the Feast of St. Gabriel is organized on a huge scale. In ethiopia, people belonging to the Christian faith believe in a patron saint and St. Gabriel is the most famous one amongst all the patron saints. The Kullubi or the feast of St. Gabriel is celebrated each year on 28th of December. The Churches in ethiopia strictly maintain the rituals for the feast. Few days before the feast fast are being maintained, which is considered to be pious for one's soul. The celebration is observed for three days and on 28th of December people walk from their house to their nearest church to express their wishes to St. Gabriel.
The most important church where the people generally go to express their feelings is situated on a terrace farm land in Kullubi. The journey to the Kullubi is considered an act of pilgrimage.The pilgrims visit the site with their wishes and carry gifts for St. Gabriel. During the celebration days huge crowd of people gather around the church on the Kullubi hill. Tents are arranged for these people for their stay of three consecutive days during the festival. During their stay in the place people consume Tej and Tella, the local beer and mead which are the local drinks of the area. During the era of the festival some charity works are also done, huge gifts are distributed among the poor people.
The festival is of great importance to the ethiopians, the people believe that St. Gabriel is always on their side and at any point of crisis he would solve their problems. Therefore, they prefer to express all their wishes during the festival in a belief that their wishes are bound to be fulfilled by the blessings of St. Gabriel. The festival is also significant for maintaining the unity among the ethiopians.
