It has gained amazing popularity among kids and teenagers, as well as grownups. Whether it is for stepfathers, fathers or grandfathers, Father’s Day has become a nationalized festival of every country. But very few of us are aware of the Father’s Day history. We are unaware of the origin of Father’s Day celebrations. So, let us together take a peek-a-boo into the Father’s Day history that is necessary for every kid to know.

Father’s Day history dates back to years now. It is established as a secularized celebration all over the world but the religious undertones can be seen in its celebrations. Different countries like the United States, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany and India celebrate this festive occasion on different dates with sweets, games and gifts. People take this special occasion to thank dads for everything that they have done and still continue to do. It is believed that Father’s Day is celebrated on Saint Joseph's Day. Indeed, on Saint Joseph's Day, Saint Joseph is commemorated. He is the foster father of Jesus Christ and the husband of Mary.

There is another legend regarding Father’s Day history that believes that the tradition of Father's Day can be traced back in the ruins of Babylon. It is believed that the historical background of Father’s Day is thousand of years old. In fact, it is recorded in early history that Elmesu—a young boy carved a Father's Day message on a clay card. He wished for long life of his Babylonian father. Hence, many people consider it to be the origin of the celebration. However, the most recent version of Father’s Day history offers thanks to Sonora Louise Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington. She believed that as we honor mothers on Mother’s Day, we should also set aside a day to acknowledge the importance of fathers.
