Home » Celebrations in Germany

Germany is often referred to as the land of festivals and celebrations. It is the only country in Europe that remains preoccupied with all sorts of festivals round the year. Religious as well as pagan or non-religious festivals take place in plenty in Germany. The most acclaimed and famous festival in Germany is the Oktoberfest festival, which is held in the month of October. However it starts in the middle of September every year. The festival is celebrated for two weeks and the most famous venue of the festival is Munich. The festival is celebrated in the form of a fair which is considered to be the world's largest fair in the world. People from all over the globe come to Munich to participate in the fair.

Germany, a land of diverse culture and ethnicity is always a land of music and performing arts. In the month of June many traditional music festivals are organized, some of them are Bach-Woche in Luneburg, the Handel-Festspiele, the Schumann Woche and many more.

In the month of July festivals related to folklore are celebrated, such as the Dinkelsbuhl's Kinderzeche and Ulm's Schwormontag which are considered as the most celebrated folklore of the country.Festivals to most of us sometimes signify fireworks. Germany to this aspect is also not behind from it. The month of August brings the festival of fireworks and the main place for it is the Heidelberg and Der Rhein in Flammen in Koblenz.

Another important festival that is very much famous in Germany is the six-day racing, this more a kind of a sport. It is a cycle racing for six days as it can be inferred from the name itself. The cycle race is a continuous one which ends on the sixth day and goes for the 24 hours each day.

Some of the other festivals acclaimed in Germany are Bach Festival, Carnival, Berlinale, Luther's Wedding and many more
