Baisakhi, the festival of North India, is mainly the famous festival of Punjab. Punjab has its fame as a land of merrymaking where celebrations are full of exuberance. Baisakhi being a festival of Punjab is no exception. Baisakhi celebrations are full of devotion, traditinal performances and ebullience. Baisakhi falls on 14 April every year marking the arrival of solar year. Baisakhi is derived from the month of vaisakh. So the other name of Baisakhi is Vaisakhi.

The joyous festival begins with the dip of the people in th holy rivers of Punjab. The slogan-Jatta aai Baisakhi-enchants the air. The people are in vibrant colorful dresses which make the festival full of color and joy. The performance of Bhangra dance takes place in every nook and corner of the country with the celebration. There is a continuous challenge between the dancers and drummers. There are also various zestful movements symbolizing the actions of sowing, winnowing, harvesting and gathering of crops. The movements are accompanied through ballads of Punjab.

Baisakhi celebrations are celebrated by the Sikhs with special religious significance. They visit the gurudwaras and distribute the Kada prasad. There are also processions led by Panj Piaras or the five religious men. In the gurudwaras recitation of the passages from the Granth Sahib take place. At Talwandi Sabo Baisakhi celebration reaches its height with a religious essence. People are also found to sit to relish langar or community lunch which are prepared and served by volunteers. Baisakhi is also celebrated with a great gusto at the Golden Temple of Amritsar. Its significance is that Khalsa Panth was founded there.
