Baisakhi festival earns its fame as a colorful festival. People wear vibrant colorful dresses for the festival. Baisakhi dress consists of different hued apparels for both men and women. Women generally wear lehanga-choli or salwar-kamiz. They also wear different types of heavy jewels on this day. Men wear kurta with pajama or lungi. This is the traditional dress of the men of Punjab.

Baisakhi Dress for Men

The traditional dress for bhangra dance makes the Baisakhi dress more colorful. The traditional dress of men for bhangra consists of Turla or Torla. It works as a decoration of the turban. The Pag, which is a kind of turban stands for honor of the people of Punjab, is another part of Baisakhi and Bhangra dress. Men are also seen wearing earrings and Kaintha which is a type of necklace. The Kurtas are generally made of silk with various types of embroidery. Lungis are tied around the waist of the dancers. Then there is also Jugi which is a waistcoat without buttons. Finally, there is Rammal which is actually a scarve to be worn on the fingers of men. It gives a perfect look to the movement of the hands at the time of Bhangra dance.

Baisakhi Dress for Women

The Baisakhi dress for women of Gidda dance is spectacular and elegant. The dresses are of brighter colors and decorated with heavy jewelry. Gidda dress consists of embroidered Dupatta which is a churni. The salwar-kameez worn by women is a type of shirt and baggy pants. On Baisakhi, women also wear sharraras which are types of ghagaras. The jewelries include: Tikka, jewelry to adorn the forehead; Jhumka to decorate the ears; Paranda, which are braid tassles. Women also wear Suggi-Phul on their head, Raani-Haar and Haar-Hamela which are types of necklaces around their necks. All these colorful dresses for the traditional dances render the Baisakhi dress really spectacular.
