Baisakhi Mela is one of the colorful aspects of the Baisakhi festival in Punjab. Baisakhi Mela is typical of the rural melas of Punjab which uphold the colorful and energetic life of the state. The Bausakhi mela is also known as the New Year Festival of the Sikhs. For the Sikhs Baisakhi mela is celebrated on thirteenth of April every year. It is in this Baisakhi mela that Guru Gobind Singh introduced the concept of Khalsa in 1699. The Sikhs celebrate the Baisakhi mela with full devotion and religious customs. They take bath in the mornings before doing their prayers. The gurdwaras are frequently visited by the Sikhs. They take vows for doing something for brotherhood. The members for the committee of Gurdwaras are also selected in the time of Baisakhi mela.
Baisakhi Mela is now not only the Mela of peasants and limited to Punjab. It has achieved a global nature. Baisakhi Mela is celebrated in different countries where the Punjabi communities have their presence, especially the Sikhs. Trafalgar Square which is in London enjoys the Baisakhi Mela since 2003. The other communities along with the Sikhs are also found to take part in the joyful festival.
