Baisakhi is one of the major festivals of Punjab which has its own significance. It is considered as the harvest festival of Punjab. Its significance lies in its tremendous impact on Sikh religion. Baisakhi significance in its impact on the Sikhs unveils the legends of its importance on Sikhs. It is legendary that in 1567 Baisakhi was first institutionalized by Guru Amar Das. He regarded it as a special day to receive the guru's blessings at Goindwal. Again, on this day the tenth guru of the Sikhs, Gobind Singh, in 1699, directed the order of khalsa. He discarded the Guru tradition of Sikhism and announced that Granth Sahib will be the eternal Guru of all Sikhs. Panj Piaras are selected by the guru to led the rest.

The importance of Baisakhi for the Hindus installs the fact that Swami Dayanand Saraswati founded the Arya Samaj in 1857, on this day. Again, for the Buddhists this is the auspicious day when Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment or Nirvana, in Gaya, under the Mahabodhi tree.
