Though the traditional customs and traditions of the Iranians may often seem to be complex to the foreigners yet its detailed study reveals that this particular country is immensely rich when it comes to culture. A number of festivals are celebrated in this country famous for natural and crude oil. People of different nationalities are free to celebrate their characteristic festivals that further indicate the liberal cultural background of this country.
There are a number of festivals that bring national holidays with them. These are generally referred to as the National Holidays. The important National festivals of Iran are the Mehrgan, Noruz, Yalda, Chahar Shanbesh Suri .It is generally believed that the origin of almost all the Iranian festivals come from the Pre Islamic Zoroastrian era. However, there are a few festivals which are celebrated by the Zoroastrians as well as by the people of other communities. The important festivals falling under this category include the likes of Nowruz, Jasne Sade, Jasna Mehragan and Jasne Tirgan. Jasne Sade is the festival of fire while Jasna Mehragan is the day which is usually dedicated to Mithra, the highest angel. Jasne Tiragan is the festival of Tir, i.e. the day which has been dedicated in the name of Tistrya , who is considered to be the Angel of star Sirius and Rain.
Islamic festivals are also equally important in this part of the world. The festival of Ramadan is celebrated here with the preparation of special dishes like Ferni, Halwa and Zoolbia- Bamieh. Even the Eid-e-Fitr, Nimeh Saban, Ghadr Nights, Ghorban ceremony to nam a very few. Even some Jewish festivals like the Purim and the Illanout (betterly known as the Tree festival), is pretty much popular here. Illanout is somewhat identical to the Shab-e-Cheleh and reminds us about the pre Islamic occasions. However, there are three festivals which are unofficially in this land. These include the likes of the New Year’s Day, Valentines Day and Halloween.
