The most important Japanese festivals are enlisted below:

  • Hounen Matsuri : It is one of the most famous Japanese festivals in which huge phallis are laid down over the streets. It is also known as the last great annual fertility festival and is most popular in towns which lie near Nagoya.
  • Tenjin Matsuri : In this festival you will find men in traditional Japanese clothes moving through the street of Osaka. During the night, they are made to move down the river and fireworks add up to this festive occasion.
  • Omizutori : This festival is scheduled every year in the month of March. The characteristic feature of this festival is torch parades around the Nigatsudo temple which is indeed a treat for your eyes.
  • Hanazumo Festival : Better known as the crying baby sumo festival, it is believed that the crying and falling over aspects that are associated wit this festival brings good luck to its participants.
  • Danjiri Matsuri : In this festival, a large and costly shrine is made to run through the streets of the popular Japanese cities. It is celebrated with vigor and passion mainly in Osaka.
  • Hina Matsuri : In this particular Japanese festival, the dolls that are collected throughout this country are sent into the sea. The main motive behind conducting this festival is to throw away the evil spirits from the souls of the teen aged Japanese girls.
  • O-shiro Matsuri : This festival consists of yearly parades and traditional as well as modern dance items. It is mostly celebrated in the Japanese city of Wakayama
  • Hanami : Hanami or the Cherry Blossom festival is yet another important celebration among the Japanese community. Sakura or the Japanese Cherry Blossom is reputed and declared the best of its kind in almost all the corners of this world.
