One of the most important and largest music and drama festival of Macedonia, the Ohrid Summer Festival is one of its kind in the whole of Macedonia. First started in the year 1961 in the Church of St. Sophia, having high-end acoustics, the Ohrid Summer Festival of Macedonia still continues to be a major musical event in the whole world and is paid patronage by many music aficionados every year. As artists from both the home turf and abroad gather in for this musical extravaganza, Ohrid Summer Festival is rendered an international touch and becomes a truly world-class event. Till now, artists from more than 44 countries have taken part in this festival and have graced the occasion.
The Ohrid Summer Festival is celebrated every year from the 12th of July till the 20th of August in Macedonia. During this festival a total of 80 events are arranged out of which about 12 events are on plays, 40 events are on performanes and the remaining 28 events are on musical programs. More than three decades now, the Ohrid Summer Festival has played host to more than 1,150 performances and a total of 30,000 local and foreign artists have taken part in them.
Visited by more than 20,000 music aficionados every year, the Ohrid Summer Festival usually takes place in various historic buildings and monuments of Macedonia giving it a grand touch basking in the magnanimity of the grand architectural marvels of the past. Over the years, along with the main event celebrations, several other activities have been incorporated in the Orhid Summer Festival. The International Master's School for talented young violinists, pianists, singers and cellists is one such addition. In the past, 35 such events have been witnessed by the Ohrid Summer Festival and have been celebrated with much enthusiasm by the masses.
