by Father Hidalgo. He rang the bells
of the church in Dolores on 16th September
1810 and urged the people of Spain
to take up arms in their hand and
fight against the Spanish authority.
From the Balcony of the national palace
the Mexican president on every 15th
September night rings the same bell
that was once used by Father Hidalgo
and cheers the crowd by repeating
the 'Grito de Dolores' or the shout
of Dolores. The tourists are often
delighted by witnessing some of the
finest of rituals that are followed
during the celebrations, like when
the president yells 'Viva Mexico'
the crowd of near about million people
gathered on the Zocalo or the main
square shouts back 'Viva'. Then the
president waves the flag from the
balcony and the gathered mass seems
to cheer in the loudest of their voice.
