The Historic Center Festival is celebrated
every year in Mexico City in the month
of April. Headed by Placido Domingo,
a famed tenor who is also a native
of Mexico, the celebrations at the
Historic Center Festival kick off
in style. Incorporating visual arts
performances, art exhibitions, fine
food and several other events, which
are held at different venues throughout
this place including the famous Teatro
de la Ciudad, Metropolitan Cathedral,
Palacio Postal and Palace of Fine
Arts, this event is celebrated in
a very grand manner throughout this
place.
Performances by the famous Paul Taylor
Dance Company, Les Grands Ballets
Canadiens de Montreal, the Russian
Chamber Orchestra are some of the
other attractions at this event. A
lot of children's activities also
take place at this occasion. Some
of the favorites here include storytelling,
museum tours, games and arts and crafts
activities. Food also comprises an
important aspect at the Historic Center
Festival of Mexico City. With the
likes of the hunter's feast, a celebration
of chiles rellenos and theme dinners,
the festival packs a punch to the
connoisseurs' platter with all the
delectable delicacies of the land.
Right from the times of the Aztecs,
the Historic Center has preserved
many historic and cultural glories
of the past. Started in the year 1985,
the festival was targeted to help
the rescue of the Centro Historico.
Every year in its beautiful patios,
government buildings, palaces, cloisters
and churches the festival of the Historic
Center is organized and is attended
by many from around the world. In
the past 18 years, artists from both
national and international levels
have performed here and graced the
occasion. Moreover, in the year 1988,
to recognize the contribution of those
people whose efforts have made a difference
to the rescue and dignification of
the artistic heritage of Centro Historico,
the Medal of Merit was introduced
by the Festival Organizing Committee.
One uniqueness of this festival is
that, a part of the earnings from
the various events held at the Historic
Center Festival are used to support
a number of children's causes, including
UNICEF and a special organization
for the homeless and underprivileged
children.
So if you are planning to visit a
place as unique and as distinct as
your dreams, then come to Mexico City
and indulge in the festivities of
the Historic Center Festivals.
