Home » Mexico » Mariachis in Mexico

The International Mariachi Festival is celebrated every year in Guadalajara, Mexico during the last week of August which continues till the first week of September. The Mariachi Festival is flagged off with an inaugural parade that starts from the intersection of Ninos Heroes and 16 de Septiembrede and finally comes to an end at the Palacio de Gobierno. A grand occasion to catch the Mexican culture at its best, the Mariachi Festival in Mexico is a very colorful and vivid festival of the Mexican people. A splendid presentation of the Mariachi bands and floats, folkloric ballet groups and representatives from both local and national Charro groups are what lend this festival an air of rustic charm and festive mood.

Attended by more than 2,000,000 spectators every year, the International Mariachis Festival in Mexico mainly consists of these following attractions:

  • Gran Fiesta Mexicana: This festival is celebrated at the Plaza de la Liberacion and attempts to recreate the magic of a Mexican Serenade. This event is free and open to all the spectators.

  • Tequila Express: Tequila is Mexico's Agave capital and can be reached by train from Guadalajara. Mariachis, folkloric ballet dancers, Charros and art exhibitions would surely provide some food for thought.

  • Shopping Center Performances: Special Mariachi music shows are organized at three of Guadalajara's finest shopping centers namely, Plaza Mexico, Plaza San Isidro and Plaza Bugambilias. So, you can enjoy some good music while shopping at these shopping centres.

  • Street Music: Mariachis perform on the streets free of charge during this festive occasion. So, you can enjoy some good Mexican music along with spectacular fireworks and folkloric dance.

  • Marichi Concert: At the Benito Juarez theater, a special Mariachi concert is held. At this event, you can lay your hands on some delectable Mexican delicacies, regional foods and of course tequila and candies. Moreover, a grand concert is held at the same venue attended by some of the finest Mariachi groups with national and international celebrities.

  • Expo Pinturas and Expo Artesanias: Get to know more about the Mexican tradition and its people through art and artesania of the land.

  • Popular Concerts: With an impressive backdrop of the Instituto Cultural Cabanas situated at one corner of the Plaza Tapatia, the live performances of the Mariachis heightens the spirit and sets the mood for a perfect holiday.

So, if you are planning to visit Mexico, then do make a visit during the last week of August to catch up some good Mexican music performed by the Mariachi performers.
