different celebrations and festivals
that are celebrated in Philippines.
The five main festivals that are celebrated
in Philippines are Araquio Festival,
Ati-Atihan Festival, Flores de Mayo,
Mardi Grass and Dinagyang. Each of
the festival relates to a historical
event behind their existence.
The Araquio Festival is celebrated
to address the eternal bond between
the Christians and the Muslims. In
Philippines when the Spaniards conquered
it as their colonial territory, large
scale violence took place between
the Christians and the Muslims. However,
gradually the relationship between
the two religious communities got
better and these two started staying
together on the same land. Thus to
commemorate such eternal bonds between
them the Araquio Festival is celebrated.
The Flores de Mayo celebrated in
the month of May when different flowers
bloom in the island, when the monsoon
commences. These flowers are then
offered to Virgin Mary and the festival
goes on for nine days. The era of
the festival is observed with merry
makings and feasting.
Lastly the Mardi Gras, Dinagyang
and Ati-Atihan are three popular celebrations
in Philippines which are of same in
