Iron man Switzerland Triathlon celebrations
are one of the popular celebrations
in Switzerland. It is part of the
global event called Iron man World
Triathlon Championship. It consists
of an annual triathlon race; made
popular by its grueling length, race
conditions and sports television coverage.
This celebration is held every year
during the Northern Hemisphere’s fall
season in the US city of Kailua-Kona
and Hawaii. The race celebrations
comprises three events of 2.4 mile
ocean swim in Kailua-Kona Bay, followed
by 112 mile bike ride across the Hawaiian
Lava desert to Hawaii and from that
finally ends up with 26 7/32 mile
Marathon across the Big Island coast
ending finally on Ali’I Drive.
Iron man Switzerland Triathlon Celebrations
is held every year in Zurich, Switzerland
on June 24. The spectators wait to
have glimpses of the participating
greats and their performances from
the field of athletics and swimming.
This event is held amidst the picturesque
ambiance of Zurich city. During the
Iron Man Week, the grand and picturesque
Zurich Lake is made up with hundreds
of participants in various events
of rowing, windsurfing and sailing.
The contestants enjoy the 21 degree
Celsius temperature of the waters
of Zurich Lake that looks calm and
serene. The bike racing is also a
part of the Iron man Switzerland Triathlon
celebrations that manages to remain
fast despite the turbulence of the
Lake Zurich waters.
The genesis of Iron man Switzerland
Triathlon could be traced to Southern
California in the late 1970s. Here
multifarious sports event like swimming,
cycling, running and other things
were organized by athletic clubs to
celebrate summer exercises. The first
Iron Man Triathlon event was held
in the year 1978 and continued in
Honolulu, Hawaii till 1980. Again
in the year 1981, the venue moved
over to Big Island. As a result of
the frequent shifting, Iron man Triathlon
was held twice in the year 1982. The
original idea for these huge celebrations
was framed in the year 1977 during
the Oahu Perimeter Relay Racing Competitions
(a running race competitions consisting
of five members).
Now Iron Man Switzerland is an equally
popular celebration in Switzerland
as a major sporting festival. Every
year the celebrations begin on June
24 and continue for a week amidst
gaiety and mirth.
